The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue

SYNOPSIS: In 1714 France, Addie LaRue has only one desire–FREEDOM. She does not want to be someone’s property. She does not want someone else making choices for her. She only wants to live her life unbridled, without restrictions. In a moment of desperation, she is presented with this exact opportunity by the Dark. When she accepts a deal, Addie quickly realizes that while she will live forever, she will also be forgotten by any and all who meet her. It is a beautifully written cautionary tale of the phrase, “Be careful what you wish for.” There is so much more to this story, but I don’t want to spoil an ounce of it for you!

MY THOUGHTS: This book has my whole heart. It has love and loss, power and corruption, friendship and loneliness, perseverance and freedom, art and beauty, but most of all—sacrifice. This was one of those books that I could not put down, but also wanted to savor as long as possible. I laughed, I cried, I felt for every character–even the villain. V. E. Schwab has a captivating way of telling a complex story, and creative descriptions that make me want to read and re-read. I do not usually read much fantasy, but this may be the gateway to more (or at least more V. E. Schwab masterpieces). I loved this book so much and will be thinking about it for years to come. I do recommend actually sitting down and reading it, as opposed to listening, because of the beautiful writing that you do not want to miss, as well as the time changes between each chapter that span 300 years. If I could give it 7 stars, (*wink wink*) I would!
