The Adventures of a South Pole Pig

February 27, 20241 min read

SYNOPSIS: This story follows a pig named Flora, who like many famous literary pigs before her, longs for adventure outside of the pig pen. Before long, she finds herself on a boat going on the adventure she had always dreamed of. She befriends a cat and a sled dog and ends up doing things not even she could have thought of.

MATILDA’S THOUGHTS: It was a good story because Flora was funny, she had some good friends, and it had snowy, icy places. (Age 7)

MY THOUGHTS: A wonderful story of dreaming, triumph, unusual friendships, and never giving up. I enjoyed the characters, especially Flora the pig, who made me think of other pigs I had read about as a child. Flora’s naive and curious nature reminded me of Wilbur from Charlotte’s Web. Just like Wilbur who befriended a spider, Flora teamed up with a cat named Sophia (who had all the sassiness of a cat), and an old sled dog named Oscar. This was a great reminder that you can find talent in the most unsuspecting of places and people.
