SYNOPSIS: This is the ultimate friends to lovers story between poet and award-winning author Joy Davidman and the man and legendary writer we know as C. S. Lewis. As Joy and Jack (the name Mr. Lewis gave himself at a young age) wrote back and forth across the Atlantic Ocean, they began to realize a wonderful friendship. When Joy’s home life began to unravel, she traveled to England and met her hero in person. Their friendship becomes one that resembles family, and the rest is history!
MY THOUGHTS: I absolutely loved this story! The relationship between these two thinkers was incredibly heartwarming. Their banter and respect for one another was unmatched. The way they supported each other in their lives and work was inspiring. The whole book was improved upon by listening to Mere Christianity by C. S. Lewis at the same time. Hearing what Joy had read about Jack’s beliefs on Christianity and morality helped me to understand their voices and what their relationship was based on. Based on the author’s note, much of the information in the book was heavily researched and historically accurate with some creative liberties sprinkled throughout. This is an absolute must-read for any fan of C. S. Lewis and his works!
