Providing book reviews from a couple of bookaholics
SYNOPSIS: Finlay Donavon is a single, recently divorced, mother of two, and struggling author whose life seems like it's going down the tubes. During a meeting with her agent she discusses her upcoming book and is misunderstood by an unexpected eavesdropper. All of this ends up leading her to get accidentally mixed up in a hit-for-hire gig she never was going to follow through with. Now all she has to do is get away with it.
MY THOUGHTS: I loved this book. It was a mix of an old-timey farce like I Love Lucy with what felt like an Agatha Christie murder mystery tied in. The dark humor very much reminded me of the Netflix show Dead to Me with its laugh out loud moments, and seriously dangerous subjects. The characters were multidimensional so it didn’t feel like it was too cheesy or too over-the-top. The layers of what unfolded were masterfully done and the ending was totally satisfying. I did listen to this one and I really enjoyed the narration by Angela Dawe, who gave each character such distinct personalities that made it so easy to listen to. I am so excited to read the rest of this series, the fourth of which comes out later this year (2024)!
